Good Ideas to Help Young People Develop Good Character

As character education spreads, teaching ideas are multiplying. This book collects a wealth of them. Previously available in two separate books (of the same name), this combined volume offers 250 enjoyable activity ideas organized by age group (from four-year-olds to teenagers) and by the ethical value being taught. The editors at the CHARACTER COUNTS! national office developed the lesson plans from a variety of sources, including submissions from creative teachers and youth-service professionals from across the country.

What Do You Stand For?

Adults everywhere are asking, "How can we raise good kids in a time of declining moral values?" Many states are making character education part of their school curriculum. We believe that children and teens—with support from parents and educators—can teach themselves positive character traits. This book invites kids to explore and practice honesty, kindness, empathy, integrity, tolerance, patience, respect, and more. Inspiring quotations and background information set the stage. Dilemmas challenge readers to think about, discuss, and debate positive traits; activities inspire them to explore what they stand for at school, at home, and in their community.
