Kits for Checkout 

Are you gearing up for your seasonal programs and need to reserve or check out any of the great Utah State 4-H resources or kits? You have come to the right place! Below you will find a detailed alphabetical list of what we have available. After you decide what you need, you have a two step process:

First, check the Resource Reservation Calendar to see if the item(s) you would like to check out is available for the time you need it.  Please note that some of these items must be checked out through your county.
Next, if your resource is available, fill out this online form to request the resource you'd like to check out, and we will respond to confirm your registration and to arrange for delivery and pick-up.


Birding Tote:
The Utah 4-H Birding Tote contains bird books, binoculars, and a bird activity book.

BizWiz:
BizWiz is a cross curricular, project-based program that gives students the opportunity to explore the world of investing. Students learn the basics of investment types, portfolio management, and financial planning as they engage in activities that reinforce math, social studies, and economics. BizWiz emphasizes the values of teamwork, cooperation, and communication, and is easily adapted to accommodate youth in grades 3-8. For a detailed description of our BizWiz kit, click here.

BizWorld:
BizWorld is an interdisciplinary, project-based program that gives students the opportunity to start and run their own companies. Students learn the basics of business, entrepreneurship, economics, and money management as they engage in activities that reinforce math, social studies, language arts, and economics. BizWorld emphasizes the values of teamwork, cooperation, and communication ,and is easily adapted to accommodate youth in grades 3-8. For a detailed description of BizWorld, click here.

Dinosaur Tote:
This Dinosaur Tote will help you explore ancient life! Cast your own fossils in a fossil mold, see the various types of dinosaurs with plastic models, and play dinosaur games! Discover all kinds of ancient life.

E-Trex Garmin Legend GPS Recievers:
GPS Units - The State 4-H Office has a total of 30 GPS units which can be checked out in groups of 10. GPS units are a great "learn by doing" resource. Check out our GPS page with information on our GPS Program. In addition to checking out our GPS Units, you can download GPS Teaching Resources. 4-H is successful in a large part because of the volunteer leaders who lead clubs at the local level. In order to help those volunteers and staff who are interested in using GPS with their clubs, several teaching resources have been made available on a CD that is available to volunteer leaders. Fat Tubes:
"Fat tubes" are useful visual aids to represent grams of fat in foods. You can use fat tubes along with Nutrition Facts labels to help consumers gain a better understanding of the amount of fat in various foods. For more info on the FatTubes visit this link.

Junior Master Gardener Trunk:
Many counties have Junior Master Gardener (JMG) Trunks available for checkout. These trunks contain a Leader Guide and materials to assist with 8 JMG activities.

Keva Planks:
Keva Planks offer youth a hands on learning experience that can be the gateway to:

  • Conversation Starter - Children will develop their verbal skill as they discuss plans and projects.
  • Imagination Grower - Most of the things built with KEVA planks don't quite look like the real thing, but the fun is being able to capture the essence of an object so it becomes obvious what it is. The imagination must fill in all of the gaps.
  • Team Builder - It doesn't take long to figure out that a tower goes up much faster with an extra set of hands. Lots of projects require repetition of a pattern, and once the pattern is established all builders know what to do.
  • Artist Inspirer - Many children have not explored their artistic nature. Every child is an artist and will gain pleasure from creating.

Lego Mindstorm NXT Robotics Kit:
Lego MindStorm Robotics Team Challenge Kits containing software, Lego pieces and a programmable brick are available for checkout. Contact your County Extension Office for checkout policies and availability.

Lego Wedo Robotics Kits:
These Lego Wedo Robotic kits are a great new kit design for younger elementary students. They will provide a great hands-on learning experience to actively engage children’s creative thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Lights, Camera, Cooking Tote:
The Utah 4-H Lights, Camera, Cooking Tote contains eight weeks of activities to help kids film and star in their own cooking show. Kids will focus on doing, reflecting, and applying! The activities center on kids learning about cooking, how to give a demonstration, the steps needed to prepare food. Kids will have the opportunity to write their script, film with a digital Flip camera, and then to import those video clips to a laptop and assemble them to create a video. The capstone of this eight week session is for the kids to give a live showing of their newly developed skills in front of an audience that they have personally invited.

Mobile Lab:
A mobile laptop lab is available to county offices for checkout to assist with robotics camps, and many other experiences that you might need a computer lab for. Laptops are placed regionally contact the 4-H Office if you need help identifying the regional contact.

SET Guides (these Guides are available as a PDF download):

  • Centaurs, Trolls & Fairies – This is a five day camp that involves exploring potions and ancient artifacts while looking for mythical and magical creatures that have taken refuge at hidden preserves around the world. In this camp, based on the book series Fablehaven, we’ll explore forests, animals, potions, mythical creatures, and write in invisible ink to keep our secrets hidden from our enemies.
  • Cooking Up Science – The Cooking Up Science camp is a five day camp that involves we’ll explore basic biology, chemistry, and physics using common items from the kitchen. We’ll make rock candy, mix up some cornstarch goo, and extract iron from your morning cereal!
  • Crime and Spy Science – This is a five day camp that involves discover how detectives use science to uncover the mysteries of a crime. We’ll solve the case of “The Murder of Professor Half Track” using clues, and conduct our own biotechnology experiments to solve the murder mystery. We also put campers through our “Super Spy School” and teach the essentials of being a spy.
  • Dinosaur Camp – The Dinosaur Science Camp is a five day camp that involves traveling back millions of years ago to the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth. We explore fossils that were left behind, learn about paleontologists, and dig up some dinosaur bones. “Dinosaurs” is a camp designed for grades 1-2, but could be adapted to fit most elementary age ranges.
  • Eerie Adventures – This is a one day camp where we will be learning about some scary experiments, the art of pumpkin carving, and we will learn how to make a homemade battery, as well as how to produce a static charge.
  • FUNdamental Science - The Fun-damental Science Camp is a five day camp that involves fun, hands-on activities that teach basic science principles. We’ll explore bubbles, potions, light and much more. Campers will also explore chemical reactions, learn about famous scientists, and discover the “fun” in science activities through exploration and experimentation. “Fun-damental Science” is a camp designed for grades 1-2, but could be adapted to fit most elementary age ranges.
  • Island Adventure – The Island Adventures camp is a five day camp, where we will travel to a remote, secret island and spend a week exploring learning about ocean and coastal life, including otters, manatees, polar bears, and whales. We’ll use maps to study the island and learn about island survival by building shelters and finding fresh water! We’ll also get to be Pirates for a day!
  • Magician’s Laboratory – This is a five day camp that involves writing with invisible ink, learning the secret behind the famous table cloth trick, and discovering many fantastic magic tricks and famous magicians. We’ll explore gravity, reactions, optical illusions, and learn about the cool science behind magic! Our friends and family will be AMAZED with the performance of magic at our magic show on the last day of camp!
  • Planet Energy – This is a five day camp that involves learning about the powers of light, motion, and heat energy. We’ll be launching a solar balloon, working with magnetism, experiencing solar energy, learning more about nature, and conducting energizing hands-on experiments!
  • Slimy, Gooey, Gross - The Slimy, Gooey, Gross Science Camp is a five day camp that involves fun, hands-on activities that teach basic science principles. We’ll explore slimy, gooey, gross science while we will conduct all kinds of icky, sticky experiments! Get ready to be playing in some slimy, yucky science fun.


Starlab Mobile Planetarium:
Utah 4-H offers the use of the awesome Starlab Mobile Planetarium. This is an inflatable dome of silvery plastic-coated fabric, which inside has a simulation of the night sky is projected onto the dome above. The Starlab Mobile Planetarium reveals the stars, the Sun, the Moon - in its current phase, and up to five planets. The projector displays can tilt to reveal exactly how the night sky would look in northern hemisphere, and is motor-driven to show the apparent motion of the stars, Sun, Moon etc. as the Earth rotates.

T-Rex Model 1/12 size Tote:
This tote contains a 1/12 size model of a T-Rex that youth can assemble! This is a great activity for a team building exercise or to get a clearer picture of the amazing T-Rex!

Youth Financial Literacy Kit:
This kit consists of a Green Event manual for ages 8-10, and a Millionaires manual for ages 11-14. This hands-on learning guide gives kids and youth the opportunity to learn how to better manage their money.
